John R. Zierold, 87, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, July 07, 2015 in the Salem Regional Medical Center, Salem, Ohio. He was born July 18, 1927 in Weirton, a son of the late Carl Reinhart and Mary Lucas Zierold. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and William Zierold. Jack started his career with the Weirton Daily Times in 1945 and then worked the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Press, and Post Gazette for a combined total of 50 years. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Typographical Union; a member of the West Virginia Writer's Association, where he served as President from 1982 – 1985. A very creative man, Jack will always be remembered for his loving of writing, as he penned a novel at the age of 84. He also wrote and produced four plays, and had a very special talent in photography. John is survived by his daughter, Billie Jean Kren (Kenneth) ;a step daughter, Carla Douglass (Rodger) all of Lisbon, OH; a sister, Alice Snyder of Somerset, PA; grandson, Jackson Stark Dunlope (Ashley Dillinger); step grandchildren, Mark Kren (Gina), Renee Foley, (Mike) and Brittany Kren. Visitation will be held 6-8PM Thursday, and 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Re. Dana Snodgrass will officiate.
